LCS Christmas Concert

This concert based around Mozart’s Missa Brevis was followed by a selection of carols. Mozart, a genius of a man wrote it when he was 18 years old. The work is a miracle of brevity and childlike simplicity of spirit. The Kyrie is in a sort of Sonata form with abbreviated development followed by the intonation of the Gloria (doubtless sung by the priest at the altar, in the original performances for which this Mass was written). It would be hard to match anywhere in music the combination of conciseness with a feeling of leisure and warm, expressive intensity that characterises the Sanctus, Osanna, Benedictus and Agnus Dei.

We were very fortunate to have the opportunity in this exciting production of engaging Catherine Cromerty, Nina Alupii Morton, as our respective soprano and mezzo soprano, backed up by Tenor and Bass soloists, an organ accompaniment – Alison Malcolm and a string quartet of violins, cello and double bass.

This was a delightful evening much enjoyed by our audience and also by our new Musical Director Sarit Aloni.

In the second half of the concert the choir will perform Christmas carols, featuring two fabulous Jazz arrangements of Jingle Bells and The Carol of The Bells. The concert will conclude with audience participation.

Do come and join us on the 12th of December for a fantastic evening!”
